Every student’s journey is different. This is the story of how Amara Okafor explored international education opportunities with guidance from J29 Edu Consulting.

  • Institution: University of Hertfordshire
  • Programme: BSc (Hons) Computer Science
  • Outcome: Admission offer received & Student Visa approved

When Studying Abroad Felt Overwhelming

For Amara, fresh out of secondary school, studying abroad represented an opportunity to gain a world-class education, build global connections, and set a strong foundation for a career in tech.

But knowing where to begin was not easy.

With different countries, universities, foundation vs. direct entry requirements, tuition fees, and application deadlines to consider, finding the right path required careful thought. Amara and her family needed more than a list of schools—they needed clear information, realistic options, and step-by-step guidance on navigating entry qualifications and financial planning.

That was when her journey with J29 Edu Consulting began.

Finding the Right Path

The first step was understanding Amara’s academic performance in her senior secondary school exams, her passion for software engineering, and her budget preferences.

Rather than rushing into an application, the focus was on identifying institutions where her qualifications matched direct entry criteria for a Bachelor’s degree without requiring an additional foundation year.

Together, we explored relevant institutions across the UK, evaluated course structures and campus support systems, and discussed the admissions timeline.

For Amara, this structured review brought greater clarity to an important decision: choosing the BSc (Hons) Computer Science program at the University of Hertfordshire.

From Research to Application

Once Amara identified her desired programme, the next stage was preparing a compelling undergraduate application.

J29 provided guidance on formatting her academic transcripts, organizing her WAEC/NECO results for English language waivers, and crafting a standout personal statement.

During the application process, Amara faced a common challenge: structuring her personal statement to effectively showcase her high school STEM projects and coding interest despite having no formal work experience. J29 worked with her through multiple drafts to highlight her self-taught skills, school leadership roles, and academic achievements in a way that met UK university standards.

With support throughout the process, Amara successfully submitted her application through UCAS and direct portal channels.

Taking the Next Step

On May 20, 2026, Amara received an official Offer of Admission from the University of Hertfordshire.

For Amara and her parents, this represented an exciting milestone and a major step toward her future in technology.

“Applying for my Bachelor’s degree overseas felt intimidating at first because I didn’t know how to present my secondary school results or write a proper personal statement. J29 guided me through every detail with patience. Getting my offer letter made all the hard work worth it!”

Every application is different, and admission decisions remain with the institutions concerned. What matters is helping students understand their options and approach the process with clear information and reliable support.

Preparing for the Journey Ahead

Securing admission is one part of studying abroad. Depending on the student’s circumstances, further steps include meeting outstanding admission conditions, paying tuition deposits, applying for a UK Student Visa, and organizing travel.

For Amara, the next steps involved finalizing her CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) document, completing her tuberculosis medical screening, and submitting her UK visa application. With her visa approved in August, she successfully arranged her student accommodation and travel plans for Hatfield.

J29’s role was to help Amara and her family navigate the process smoothly, while the relevant institutions and government authorities retained responsibility for their respective decisions.
